About us

Arden Fine Wines is the Mayfair-based specialist in fine & rare wines and whiskies.

Arden was founded by Stuart George in 2019 to enable fine and rare wines to be enjoyed by private and corporate clients.

Stuart began his wine career 24 years ago working alongside the distinguished Master of Wine and Burgundy expert Anthony Hanson. Five years in client-facing fine wine retail sales were followed by winemaking experience in Friuli, northeast Italy, and in Provence, France, and extensive travel across the world’s wine regions.

A holder of the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust Diploma in Wine and Spirits since 2000, Stuart has tasted vintages back to 1780. He was UK Young Wine Writer of the Year in 2003 before working with Hugh Johnson OBE at The World of Fine Wine magazine, which won several awards during his time there. Stuart was Image Editor and lead contributor to the best-selling 1001 Wines You Must Try Before You Die and Editor of the award-winning The Finest Wines of Tuscany and The Finest Wines of Champagne.

He is a sought-after wine show judge for his experienced and fastidious palate: Stuart has been the sole UK representative at the Shanghai International Wine Challenge; the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Chile; the Austrian Wine Challenge; and the 21st Concorso Enologico Internazionale in Italy.

He is also a “wine detective”. In 2014, Stuart helped to expose a Swiss-based counterfeit wine operation. In November 2019, he contacted a UK auctioneer to advise that a bottle of Pétrus 1990 being offered by them was counterfeit. The bottle was withdrawn from sale. He has also exposed dubious figures on the amount of fake wine in the market.

Stuart was winner of the 2019 Scuderia Ferrari Wine Award for his “outstanding professional achievements”.

Winemaker Comments

This delicate, barrel-fermented Chardonnay has a bright, golden colour in the glass. It has subtle aromas of citrus, honeysuckle, and jasmine with a pleasant nuttiness. Having spent 11 months in second- and third-fill oak barrels (so that the oak flavours are not too strong), Seven Springs Chardonnay has a lovely honeyed character. Pairs well with white meat or fish dishes, especially if it’s with a creamy or buttery sauce.

Winemaker Comments

True to the “house style”, the Seven Springs Unoaked Chardonnay 2015 is a light wine, with clean and pure fruit flavours – no oak barrels used here. As an unoaked Chardonnay, this is quite an aromatic wine, showing floral notes of frangipani, sweet alyssum, and even orange blossoms. It is easily enjoyed as an apéritif or as a “sundowner”, but pairing it with food is a breeze. Best served it at around 10 degrees centigrade, it goes well sushi or ceviche of fish. It also stands up to lightly-spiced dishes or soups and is great with chicken salad and a main fish course.

Winemaker Comments

Often a Sauvignon is seen as a cheap and quaffable wine but Seven Springs aims to make wines of flavour and texture that can stand on their own but are even better with food and good company. This Seven Springs Sauvignon is packed with a flavour-filled and aromatic punch. Medium-bodied with soft acidity and a clean, refreshing palate interlaced with flavours of green apple, kiwi, and grapefruit. The bouquet has floral notes of elderflower and aromas of gooseberry, lychee, and grapefruit. We would definitely recommend decanting this wine before drinking as it will aid in opening up the wine and releasing the myriad of aromas and flavours. Serving temperature of 10°C. Recommended pairings would include aromatic foods. It goes really well with Thai curry or seafood that has a tomato based sauce.

  • Syrah | Seven Springs Vineyards | 6 x 75cl

Grape Varieties

  • Syrah

Winemaker Comments

A purple hue to the wine is a tell-tale sign of Syrah and with this vibrant colour comes vibrant aromas of black currants, plums and cherries, and a hint of smokiness. An undertone of dark and decadent chocolate can be detected as well as firm oak, cinnamon, and cloves. On the palate the wine is rich, complex and round with smooth and lush tannins well-integrated with the oak. An aftertaste of licorice and spices fills the senses. To enjoy this wine fully, we suggest decanting for at least two hours before serving at 18°C. It can be enjoyed with any red meat dish, especially lamb casseroles, as the freshness of the Syrah will cut through the fattiness of the meat and make the fruity expression of the wine more prominent.

Winemaker Comments

The medium-bodied 2014 Pinot Noir has a soft and supple palate, with light and pure red fruit characters. Pale garnet in colour (as good Pinot Noir should be), the wine offers opulent aromas of strawberries and cherries and hints of forest floor. The oak barrel influence, as always, is subtle and understated. To enjoy it fully, we suggest that you decant the wine at least an hour before drinking and serve at 16-18˚C. It’s a perfect light red wine for summer that you can serve at 10-12°C. It can be enjoyed with a variety of foods, such as mushroom risotto, duck, and game dishes, or – as we have done very enjoyably in Brook Street – with chocolate brownies from our friends at Marlon’s Kitchen.
