Thummerer Winery doubles success
In 2024 marked the 30th anniversary of Vilmos Thummerer, founder of Thummerer Winery, winning the prestigious Winemaker of the Year award. The Hungarian Wine Academy awards this title in recognition of a Hungarian vintner's outstanding professional achievements and many years of work. In addition to consistently excellent quality, the results achieved in wine competitions, marketing, appearance, likeability, the sympathy generated for the winery and, last but not least, the personality of the winemaker is also considered.
In 2025, József Lamport, chief vintner at Thummerer Winery, was named Winemaker of the Year!
The two vintners had been working together in exemplary harmony since 2004.
Based on the spirit of their joint work, following the death of Vilmos Thummerer, József Lamport continued to produce wine based on traditions and modern trends.
As he commented when accepting the award: "For me, this title is not only the highest professional recognition, but also, in a word, responsibility. Not "just" responsibility for the profession, but also responsibility for continuing the mindset of Vilmos Thummerer, the extremely successful winemaker. I am committed with all my strength and knowledge to ensuring that we continue to represent the values of this title in the future."
