About us
Welcome to Four Maples Vineyard and Winery. Founded in 2008, our estate is surrounded by the Adirondacks mountains within the Champlain Valley of New York viticulture area (AVA). Four Maples is an ideal spot to celebrate life’s joyous moments or just to enjoy nature and unwind with a glass of wine. Enjoy the breeze and reminisce under the magnificent century old maple trees which the vineyard takes its named from. Spend an afternoon with your picnic basket on our cool lawn. Walk through the rows of vines where our delicious wine comes from. Wines from the grapes grown on the estate. For all the beautiful things that life gives, we say Cheers and Enjoy!
History
Four Maples Vineyard was founded in 2008 with our dreams and love of nature and to have a little bit of Europe and Asia in the north country. It is also to revive the heritage that was taken away. Erwin, born and raised surrounded by vineyard in Lausanne, Switzerland. Of Hungarian heritage, his great great great grandfather used to have a vineyard in Hungary. Norliah has always loved nature and quiet of the countryside. Born and raised in the urban city of Singapore, she has always enjoyed the days where she spent the school holidays and life at her grandmother's coconut plantation in Malaysia. Love at first sight when we spotted the abandoned land in Champlain. We envisioned our the potential it can have and our happy place.
Our American Dream Plot is planted in 2010, our Big Apple plot was planted in 2012 and the Champlain Corner was planted in 2015. 2015 Cuvée Amitié was vintage was from our harvest. A homage to all our friends who helped us from the first vine we put into the ground till harvest. We started with just 2015 vintage for sale until our next wine is ready for bottling and on the shelf.
Now every year we have a wine name dedicated to the town that the vines live, Champlain, New York.
Vineyard & Terroir
Our vineyard is gently sloping and facing south. Since we are in the north country, we planted what thrives here and vines that can survive the brutal winters. We have good soil that comes from the old river bed of Champlain Lake. The varietals we planted are mostly Marquette, Frontenac Red, and for the whites, St-Pépin and La Crescent.Winemaking & Aging
We believe in quality of our wine. Therefore, we hand picked and select the best grapes to be crushed for our wine. Every year, when weather permits, we let the grapes ripen a week or two more on the vines before picking them. This allows us to have a good brix to work with without the need to add any other sugars.
The blend of Marquette and Frontenac Red make a remarkable wine to be remembered. We believe that good wine is make from the sun and aged before bottling. We aged our wine in american oak barrels for a year to enable the wine to take its own evolution and character. Once this is done, we bottle them.
At The Winery
Each process is monitored in order to a recepi in order to achieve a consistent quality. The rest is the winemaker initiative and secret. Our Wine Club
