FAMILIA OTERO RAMOS devotes itself to the crafting of high range wines, with exclusive  brands and limited productions, using state-of-the-art technology combined with the most careful and traditional enological practices that define this Winery.

The production gradual growth, the implementation of international regulations and certifications together with Medals, Awards and Reviews obtained at the most prestigious international wine contests around the world gave place to the opening of different markets. Nowadays, the wines of Familia Otero Ramos are present in diverse countries such as: The USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Paraguay, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, The UK, Poland, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Israel and the Asian market. Moreover, constant efforts are made to keep opening new markets.

History

The project that Manuel Otero Ramos had matured for many years, was posed as one of seriousness and importance, strongly determined as a legacy he shows with great pride. FAMILIA OTERO RAMOS is the result of many decades of effort, passion and hard work. In a province where wine culture has been fostered since always by their ancestors, few succeed in accomplishing a Viticultural entrepreneurship. This is the case of Manuel Otero, who carries viticulture in his veins and managed to get involved with the land. A decade ago, he decided to make this dream come true. This is when this ambitious project came to light. In the late 90’s he acquired a parcel of rich soil in Luján de Cuyo, first Viticultural zone in Mendoza and cradle of Argentina´s flagship varietal. Then, since 2000, “Don” Manuel together with his wife and children has continued with the accomplishment of this project, whose imprint has always been passion and the hope of achieving a set goal. The winery’s Spanish style is typical of the end of the 19th century. It has a wine cellar that stores wine in oak barrels and bottles, with equipment for humidity and temperature control. Premium wines, the highest technology and the most careful and traditional winemaking practices identify this winery. A five-star rural lodge has been conceived as part of the winery’s project, targeted to first-class tourists seeking to enjoy a comfortable and excellent service.

Vineyard & Terroir

The soil is clayey and rocky, thus enabling extra water to filter and avoid flooding, which would cause the plants to suffer from water stress.

The climate, which is very hot and sunny during daytime and cold at night, is also essential to obtain high quality grapes to craft top quality wines. 

As Mendoza is an arid region, an 8 million litres capacity reservoir has been built within the winery. Not only does it give a fresh and beautiful view, but most important, it provides good water storage to avoid scarcity during dry seasons. 100% of Familia Otero Ramos vineyards are protected with anti-hail mesh and supplied with drip irrigation. This ensures that the vineyards will have the necessary amount of water.

In the fields, all labour, such as pruning and trimming, is manual. Our grapes go through 2-3 sorting stages, first during veraison (colour change season) and a second and sometimes a third previous to the harvest. Our aim is to extract the very best from each stock. Our harvest amounts to 5,000 to 6,000 kg per hectare only. 

In this exceptional location, a unique scenario  dominated by the Andean Mountain Range, great  varieties were planted, such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot,  Chardonnay, Torrontés and Sauvignon Blanc.
