California Wine Regions Map
The first two commercial wineries in California were established by two frenchmen in 1831, both in Los Angeles: Louis Bauchet, an ancient Napoléon Bonaparte guard, and Jean-Louis Vignes who created El Aliso, the Sycamore in Spanish.
Today the vineyards in California cover about 550,000 acres of land, 2,200 km², for about 90% of the USA wine production. The main wine regions of California are the North Coast, the Central Coast, the Inland Valleys, the Sierra Foothills and Southern California. Each of there regions offers at its scale a diversity of wine regions, AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) and vineyards.
